Retired General Muhammadu Buhari is a Nigeria Politician and Public figure, born in Katsina, a Northern state in Nigeria.
He attended the Nigerian Military training college located in Kaduna between 1962 and 1963 and was subsequently commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Nigeria Army, before travelling out of the Country to train at Mons Officers Cadet in Aldershot, England.
Before emerging has Nigeria 's head of state, General Buhari was the Governor in charge of the then North Eastern states, following appointment by General Murtala Mohammed in 1975.
In 1976 Buhari was appointed by then Nigerian Head of state and former civilian President, chief Olusegun Obasanjo as Minister of Petroleum and chairman the year NNPC ( Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation) was established in 1976.
On 31st December, 1983 Following a mmilitarycoup staged by prominent and middle class Nigerian Millitary officers, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari became Nigeria's Head of State, alongside His appointed deputy, Chief of General Staff Tunde Idiagbon.
Known for their zero tolerance for corruption, the Administration of Muhammadu Buhari and Tunde Idaigbon started the campaign "War Against Indiscipline" one of the most successful Government policy at the time, which was very effective in the fight against corruption, public indiscipline and helped re-position Nigeria as a serious Nation. The campaign against Indiscipline soon made Buhari and Idiagbon popular in the International community.
Buhari Economic reform Policies of rebuilding the Nation as reflected in the 1984 Budget includes:
1. stopping all forms of Borrowing by the government in performing its statutory roles.
2. reduction in prices of market commodity
3. temporary stopage of Capital Project
4. Gave priority to Agriculture
Gen. Buhari was removed by military coup which was led by General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida in August 1985 and was put into detention in the capital of Benin City before been released in 1988. An overthrown action many Buhari admirers sees as effort by stronger powers who where beginning to fear the fight against corruption led by Buhari-Idiagbo Administration may soon catch up with them.
In an effort to return back to power under Democratic dispensation, General Buhari contested the Presidential race in 2003 as a presidential candidate of Nigeria's Major opposition political party as at 2003, the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP).
Ahead of the Presidential election of 2007, Buhari was chosen as sole consensus candidate of the ANPP in December 2006, to contest against late President Umaru Yar'Adua, an election he Lost to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in person of Musa Yar'Adua.
Buhari left ANPP to join CPC (Congress for Progressive Change) in the year 2010 (March), A political platform He had help created.
He contested again for the presidential race in 2011 and lost to President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.
He is among the founder of Nigeria mega Political Opposition party which saw to the merger between Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) to form the All Progressive Congress (APC) on the 16th of February, 2013.
He is APC presidential candidate for the 2015 Presidential election, with Professor Yemi Osinbanjo as his vice Presidential running mate in the up coming 2015 election.
He later won the Poll and was sworn in as Nigeria President on May 29, 2015 alongside legal professor Yemi Osinbanjo who debuts as vice president.
